New Moon is a romantic fantasy novel by author Stephenie Meyer , and is the second novel in the Twilight series. The novel continues the story of Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen 's relationship. When Edward leaves Bella after his brother attacks her, she is left heartbroken and depressed for months until Jacob Black becomes her best friend and helps her fight her pain. However, her life twists once more when Jacob's nature reveals itself and Edward's sister decides to visit. According to Meyer, the book is about losing true love. Writing the book was difficult for Meyer as she feared the readers' reaction to the book and often cried as she described Bella's pain. The book was originally released in hardcover on September 6, with an initial print run of , copies.

Bella Swan is just turning The night before she had a dream that she was staring at her grandmother. She turning around she saw her immortal boyfriend who was a vampire Edward. She gets worried that her grandmother is watching because it was light in the room they were in and vampires skin crystallized when in light. It was a mirror. She got the thought that she had been dreading.

Bella Swan has always felt out of place. She doesn't fit in. But ever since she met Edward Cullen, her life has changed and she finally feels like she has a purpose: to be what Edward is, a vampire. Ever since Edward met Bella he's felt much more content with his life. For hundreds of years he's regretted the things he's done and wished that Carlisle, his foster father, had just let him die all those years ago. But once he met Bella, he knew she was 'the one'.
