Michael Crichton had not planned to write a sequel to Jurassic Park , but after the success of the movie Jurassic Park , many fans and Steven Spielberg asked for a sequel, to which Crichton obliged. Six years after surviving the disaster on Jurassic Park, eccentric mathematician Ian Malcolm and rich dinosaur-enthusiast Richard Levine are researching InGen's mysterious Site B , looking for its exact location, after learning of its existence. Site B, an island named Isla Sorna , was the secret "production factory" for Jurassic Park, where dinosaur stock were hatched and grown, before shipment to Isla Nublar. Levine mysteriously disappears, and Malcolm fears he might have discovered the location of "Site B", and in his impatience already set out for it without letting Malcolm know. It is a sequel to his earlier novel Jurassic Park. In , both novels were re-published as a single book titled Michael Crichton's Jurassic World , unrelated to the film of the same name. In , four years after the disaster at Jurassic Park, chaos theorist and mathematician Ian Malcolm — who is revealed to have survived the events of the previous novel , despite being declared dead in the epilogue — teams up with paleontologist Richard Levine to search for a "lost world" of dinosaurs following rumors of strange animal corpses washing up on the shores of Costa Rica. In , they learn of Site B on Isla Sorna, the "production facility" where the now-defunct company InGen hatched and grew the dinosaurs for their Jurassic Park theme park on nearby Isla Nublar. Afraid that the Costa Rican government will find Isla Sorna and destroy the dinosaurs, Levine hastily embarks on an expedition to the island without Malcolm. He arrives with a Costa Rican guide named Diego, but shortly after arriving, the two are attacked by mysterious creatures, later identified as Carnotaurus , who kill Diego. Malcolm eventually learns that Levine has gone missing there.

The Lost World is a science fiction novel by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle , published in , concerning an expedition to a plateau in the Amazon basin of South America where prehistoric animals still survive. It was originally published serially in the Strand Magazine and illustrated by New-Zealand-born artist Harry Rountree during the months of April—November The character of Professor Challenger was introduced in this book. The novel also describes a war between indigenous people and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures. Edward Malone, a young reporter for the Daily Gazette , asks his editor for a dangerous assignment to impress the woman he loves, Gladys, who wishes for a great man capable of brave deeds and actions. His task is to approach the notorious Professor Challenger, who dislikes the popular press intensely and physically assaults intrusive journalists.

His untimely death from cancer in robbed the world of many undoubtedly great future works, to be sure, but his legacy lives on. The genesis of the idea for Jurassic Park went back to a screenplay that Crichton began working on in The novel was published in November of and became a huge bestseller. One could speculate that Jurassic Park was sort of West World with dinosaurs instead of robotic cowboys. It proved to be a very effective and unexpected opening to the second film.
