Elephant and Piggie Birthday Party - Parenting the Principal

Our mom instilled in us a love for reading and books at a very young age. Reading to our kids everyday is such a bonding experience. Poppy loves hearing the adventures of these adorable characters and Calla and Harper loved reading the series as early readers. The girls went crazy! Decorations are always a fun part of a party. The girls helped decorate for the little party. Harper made the hanging lanterns and was so proud of her decor!

I Am Invited to a Party! (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

I wrapped up a book for each of them, set out a snack and strung up some decorations. We colored and did activities and then read all the books on the couch! A new beginning-reader series created by Mo Willems! The Good for Nothing Button book was the first one they all dove into today! A button was also included in our box of goodies.

When Piggie gets a cool invitation to go to her first party, she invites her best friend Elephant to go with her. Elephant declares, "I know parties," and that, as it turns out, is very true. Not knowing what kind of party it will be—a fancy party, a pool party, or a costume party—the two resourceful friends prepare for all three. You could adopt an Elephant and Piggie theme for a child's birthday party, playing games based on the stories in the series, such as Balance the Nest on Your Head, Make Someone Laugh, and Pretend to Fly.

What is not to love about the adorable duo full of expression and humor? Then I used Canva to create invitations for her. I used the very thick poster board from the dollar store and pieces it together. With an exact-o knife, I cut out a rectangle for our faces to peek through. I covered the poster board with paper and then cut out and glued the words to complete the look.

Either way, I have some hard news. This series is coming to an end. But the good news is that the final book, The Thank You Book is a gem. If you love this series as much as I do and boy do I love it! But I admit I had a hard time reading the final few pages.

So, of course, we were so excited to partner with Disney-Hyperion on a sponsored post to celebrate 10 years of the series! Ten years of these adorable and relatable friends teaching kids not only how to read, but also how to be a good friend and how to handle difficult emotions. In fact, Disney-Hyperion sent me a party pack and we used it to throw ourselves a little party. Spoiler alert, the good for nothing button is actually good for something! Luckily, the nice folks at Disney-Hyperion are helping me do a giveaway.
