She is an American writer of children's books primarily historical fiction, nonfiction, and picture books. This book is about stories from spies, saboteurs, and survivors of the invasion of the Nazi's and Hitler. In Copenhagen, Denmark, around 5 o'clock in the morning Germany invaded the Danish Frontier without warning. One of the characters Neils Skov was cleaning a work bench. Once he found out of the invasion, he was angry and wanted to do something about it.

Well now, the ocean consists of drops. Readers are immediately drawn in with riveting action from the Danish spies and saboteurs—ordinary men and women who, instead of meekly surrendering their freedom and watching their fellow countrymen in danger, chose to covertly help the official resistance organizations by destroying German machinery and weaponry, disrupting their supply lines and secretly transporting the Jewish population to nearby neutral Sweden. At a great risk to their own lives—and in fact many of the Danes featured were eventually sent to concentration camps—these men and women were brave, admirable heroes of WWII and humbly represent the spirit of the Danish people in a time of great deprivation and strife.

Thank you! Patriotic men and women fight against German occupiers in this absorbing chronicle of the World War II resistance movement in Denmark. When Denmark was invaded in April , the Danish government surrendered almost immediately. Sneum escaped to Great Britain and worked on espionage and sabotage operations in occupied Denmark. His is one of several stories Hopkinson tells. Two others are those of saboteur Niels Skov and the members of Holger Danske 2, a group involved in extensive sabotage activities. Passing mention is given to the Churchill Club, a small but remarkably effective student resistance group, now the subject of a full-length book, The Boys Who Challenged Hitler , by Phillip Hoose
