Fifty Shades started out as Twilight fan fiction, and James has again imprinted on that series' author, Stephenie Meyer, by writing a version from the man's point of view. Meyer never finished her attempt, Midnight Sun, after large amounts of it were leaked online in , but James has managed to get hers done, possibly by copying out some old fan fiction and changing all the names.
