It follows the life of Bridget Jones through the ups and downs. Austenland tells the story of Jane Hayes and her big obsession with Mr.

And like most young women, I devoured Jane Austen in my early teen years. It took several years, but finally I got an advanced copy of Eligible in the mail Thanks, Random House! I was thrilled, and it took everything I had not to beg off work to spend the afternoon devouring it. With quick chapters, witty dialogue, and memorable characters that echoed their inspiration while being wholly modern and original, it was quite delightful. I may have laughed out loud several times. Once I was finished, I was craving more modern stories that have the same feel of Pride and Prejudice —the keen insight into characters, the family drama and the romance, wit and wisdom but also a heavy dose of gossip. So here are some more books in the same vein.

The puzzling rarely lets me down, even if the story does. In an odd bit of readerly timing, I recently read three Pride and Prejudice retellings back to back. The first two were coincidental, and then I decided I might as well go for the trifecta. Have you read any of these? What are your favorite Pride and Prejudice retellings? I enjoyed Unequal Affections, which you recommended. I listened to it and now plan to read it.

Here are some of our favorite recent-ish works that bring the tale of Lizzy, Darcy, and the others into a wide variety of different settings.

Pride and Prejudice ReTELLINGS For TEENS

Classics are called such for a reason, but what happens when someone decides to take one and retell it in a new way? Pretty amazing things, or at least that's what happens in this collection of the best Pride and Prejudice book adaptations. Even if you're a die-hard fan of the original novel, you'll delight in these creative reimaginings, I promise. Out of all of Jane Austen's novels, Pride and Prejudice is the most beloved and widely read. With the help of a fierce, bookish heroine, a timeless romance, and witty social critique, the romantic classic is compulsively re readable. Filled with vivid imagery, vibrant characters, and beautiful language, it's the kind of story you can get completely lost in over and over and over again.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that only in an overachieving Indian American family can a genius daughter be considered a black sheep. Up-and-coming chef DJ Caine has known people like Trisha before, people who judge him by his rough beginnings and place pedigree above character. A man who has never felt at home anywhere. And a choice to be made between the two. Pride and Prejudice retellings abound.

Maybe it's the setting of the book, all warmly-lit reading rooms and misty walks through lush green landscapes. Whatever it is, I always get the urge to re-read the classic romance during the chillier months. If you're anything like me, you've probably already pulled your well-worn copy from your bookshelf and are preparing for a long night of reading. But, wait! The 11 books below are either direct retellings of the story or books that share the same plots and themes — think relationships across class divides, explorations of family, and hate-to-love slow-burn romances with lots of intense pride and misplaced prejudice.
