Surface book keyboard and touchpad not working
Keyboard Problems with Surface Tablets - Love My SurfaceWhile the Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 tablets are great little devices, like any other computer, they will occasionally have issues. A common problem that seems to come up is difficulty with the Type Cover keyboards from Microsoft. Otherwise, you might want to put it off for a while to see if a fix or another update is issued. Or your keyboard started acting up out of the blue and there were no updates applied. Though I must admit, sometimes the issues will come back. Sometimes, all you need to do is detach and reattach your keyboard cover.
FIX SURFACE PRO TYPE COVER KEYBOARD ISSUES (NOT WORKING) WINDOWS 10
Pretty much what the title states. Nothing on the keyboard works with the exception of the function key light, and the tablet attachment key and light. The backlight also works. No other keys are responsive, and the touchpad does not work. The battery does charge and will distribute charge to the tablet. I've tried restarting, reattaching, verifying and updating drivers.
Surface Book keyboard and touchpad not working self. Today I just worked normally with my Surface Book and the Keyboard. I then shut it down. Later when I turned the SB back on again the touchpad and keyboard are not working. I just don't know what else to try. I can't do a clean install per USB as it is not working. I will contact MS support tomorrow but you know how helpful they are most of the time
The Surface Book 2 is a powerhouse of a device designed to showcase the versatility of the Windows 10 platform, and how adept it can be both in a PC as well as a tablet environment. That also makes the detachable keyboard a core aspect of the device designed to uphold its productivity oriented nature. Fortunately, as with most other issues, there sure are ways to turn things around, and regain control over the keyboard once again. All you need to do is press and hold on to the power and volume up button for about 30 seconds. Continue holding on to the buttons for another about 15 seconds until nothing is shown. Press the power button next for the device to start up. Test if the keyboard is detected.

This is a very annoying issue. The following are a few methods that have helped many other Surface users fix their keyboard.
My Surface Book gen 1 recently did updates and then a day or so later the keyboard and trackpad mysteriously stopped working. Then I heard of 3 other people who experienced the same issue within 24 hours. The weird things was I could hit the Fn key and it would light up — but could not use the keyboard at all. Some of the people affected by this issue did system restores which worked. I tried many system restores — which gave me my keyboard and trackpad back BUT the Surface Book repeatedly bluescreened…. They sent me here:. I stumbled across the fact that windows update KB was installed when I had the updates install — so I removed it.
