Twilight / Life and Death

In Between Life and Death , famed Israeli writer Yoram Kaniuk describes the four months during which he lay unconscious in a Tel Aviv hospital, hovering between the world of the living and that of the dead. Told in an arresting, dreamlike style that blends playfulness with fearless honesty, Kaniuk attempts to penetrate his own lost consciousness and understand what led him to fight for his life with such tenacity. Shifting between memory and illusion, imagination and testimony, Kaniuk inquires into the place of death in society, the lust for life, and the force of human relationships. He also writes movingly about the Holocaust survivors of his childhood neighborhood, and the battles of the War of Independence, in which he fought. Full of renewed vitality at the age of seventy-four, Kaniuk announced his rebirth in Between Life and Death , and left us a treasure of world literature that is sure to become a classic.

The first book I read more than 50 pages of. The first book that made me laugh. The first book that gave me the feels. The first book that I felt I could connect with. The first book I reread a million times because I couldn't get enough of it. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.

The story is a gender-swapped retelling of the first book in the Twilight series , and introduces Beau Swan and Edythe Cullen in place of Bella and Edward. As Beau walks into the class, a fan blows his scent towards Edythe Cullen. Beau sits next to Edythe in biology class on his first day of school, but she seems repulsed by him, hurting his feelings in the process. She disappears for a few days, but warms up to Beau upon her return; their newfound relationship is interrupted after Beau is nearly crushed by a van in the school parking lot. Edythe saves Beau, stopping the van with only her hand. Even though Beau never had many friends in Phoenix, he quickly attracts attention at his new school, and is quickly befriended by several students. Much to his dismay, several girls in the school compete for Beau's attention.

Ten years after the emergence of Twilight and the vampire frenzy that has since plagued entertainment outlets, Stephenie Meyer needs no introduction.

About the Book

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined is an additional, non-canon reimagining of Twilight. The book was written and published by Stephenie Meyer in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Twilight franchise. The story is set in an independent, parallel universe in which the most significant difference is that the genders, names and roles of the main characters have been reversed, with only a few exceptions. The story follows essentially the same plotline as Twilight , but with necessary adjustments and slight changes to the story, dialogue, backgrounds, and personalities of the characters to accommodate the switched gender roles. Life and Death also features an alternate ending from the original plotline. On his first day at Forks High School , he meets the alluring telepathic vampire Edythe Cullen , who is both frustrated and infatuated with him for his vulnerabilities and her inability to read his mind. Even though Beau never had many friends in Phoenix, he quickly attracts attention at his new school, and is quickly befriended by several students.
